Tyler Hoechlin who plays Derek Hale: How would you describe Teen Wolf to a new UK audience who might not have seen it? 

Well, if you compare it to the film, it’s got intelligent humour rather than out-and-out comedy, it’s got horror elements and it really looks at the time in your life when you’re going from being a teenager to an adult and all the changes that happen there.I think the show has taken on a life of its own now and the only comparison that can be made with the film is that we have the same title.

What’s the best thing about working together?

What’s not to like? When I get the call sheet the first thing I do is see who is going to be on set the next day so you know who you’ll be hanging out with. It’s like being with your best friends every day and even if we’re not doing scenes together we’ll hang out at the catering truck.

Given the fact you have to be in shape for the show are you allowed to wolf down all that food?

[Laughs] No, but I have to have coffee to keep me going and every now and then I’ll sneak some popcorn. There is pressure to be in shape. I put on weight for season two because I wanted Derek to appear strong, but then they only gave me one shirtless scene. But you need to be ready because at any moment they could go ‘You have to be half-naked in this scene’. I let things go a little bit during the hiatus, then when filming starts up again I’m back on the diet. It’s funny because on the DVDs you get the montages of us all with our shirts off so you’ve gotta stay in shape. That’s the most difficult thing about doing the show – I really miss being able to eat bread.

Whose career do you aspire to and why? 

There are so many people I look up to: Robert Downey Jr, Johnny Depp, George Clooney, Tom Hanks. Those are the big four but then Christian Bale is an amazing actor, Matt Damon is brilliant… The guys I admire are those who can jump from one genre to another and who are really good at disappearing into a character. Actors who aren’t afraid to take risks are the ones I really respect.

What do you fear the most in life?

Regret. I like to think that with whatever I do I’m totally committed to it and taking risks is a good thing. I don’t want to look back and go ‘I should have tried that’. The only way to exceed your limits is to push yourself. Oh and I’m scared of great white sharks. I like to surf so sharks are my biggest fear although, knock on wood, I’ve never encountered one so far.

Have you ever embarrassed yourself in front of a celebrity or a hero? 

I met Matthew Perry when I was a kid. I’m a huge Friends fan and I happened to be in a room he was in. I got introduced to him, I said ‘Hi’ and then I outstayed my welcome by just staring at him while he was in another conversation. Eventually I thought ‘OK, I should just go now’.

Who’s your celebrity crush and why? Have you met her?

Growing up I had a huge crush on Keira Knightley. I saw her in Pirates Of The Caribbean and thought she was so feisty. I’ve never met her but maybe one day I’ll get to work with her. Here’s hoping.

What’s been the strangest Tweet you’ve ever received? 

It’s weird when people ask me to bite them. Because of the show I kind of get where they’re coming from but it’s a little bizarre, but also they might be thousands of miles away so it’s not really convenient, is it?

What are your experiences of the LA dating scene?

It’s definitely not easy. It’s a busy town. People are coming in and out all the time, you’re coming in and out all the time yourself… It’s hectic and there’s not that sense of community where you get to know everyone around you in your local area. 

Does the ‘casting couch’ really go on in Hollywood?   

[Laughs] That I don’t know. I know the phrase but I can’t confirm the existence of it. You hear crazy stories but then LA is full of rumours, but I can honestly say it’s never happened to me.

 

Daniel Sharman who plays Isaac Lahey:How would you describe Teen Wolf to a new UK audience who might not have seen it? 

It’s a really exciting show with more of an edge and darker themes than the 1980s film. That’s a fun film, of course, but we delve much deeper into issues of adolescence and as we move into the third series people have stopped comparing us to the movie.

What do you fear the most in life?

Mediocrity – the idea of just being alright at something. In drama school we were taught to just go for it, even if it means failing abysmally. Tessellation also scares me. Do you know what that is? It’s lots of little objects in a row, like the ridges on a cat’s tongue. That freaks me out.

Have you ever embarrassed yourself in front of a celebrity or a hero? 

I once met Peter O’Toole, who is one of my acting heroes, and I embarrassed myself by being a blithering idiot. I couldn’t get a proper sentence out.

Who’s your celebrity crush and why? Have you met her?

I had weird crushes on cartoon characters as a kid, especially April from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. She was so fit but of course I’ve never met her, mainly because she doesn’t exist in real life!

What’s been the strangest Tweet you’ve ever received? 

I’m not very good on Twitter but some of the fan letters I get are really explicit. You get 12-year-old girls saying the most outrageous things. I won’t go into exactly what they’re saying but it’s pretty worrying.

You and Crystal Reed, who plays Allison, are a couple in real life. How are you coping with the attention that brings?

There can be added pressure because we all have tiffs and arguments and if you’re really famous it must be difficult to see that splashed across the newspapers. But it’s great being with a fellow actor because they understand the job and you don’t have to live every moment in the public eye. You can avoid the big showbiz parties and all that stuff.

You’re a Brit so how did you make the move over to Hollywood?

Ever since I started acting I wanted to make it in America. Then I did the movie Immortals in Canada, made the move to Los Angeles and I just fell in love with the whole film and TV process. I trained in theatre so it was interesting to me to see how differently they do things. There’s no better way to learn than being on a big American TV show and of course the catering is better, although we have to be in shape for Teen Wolf so I’m not allowed near all that food – but I can say that it looks better.

Brits have a big presence in Hollywood right now. Do you hang out with each other?

We do, yes. I play football, as do a lot of Brits out there, so there’s always a team to play with. I’m on the same team as Stephen Moyer from True Blood, who is also a Brit. It’s funny how we all just group together.It feels like there are more Brits in Los Angeles than there are Americans. You go out at night and it’s like being down your local English pub.

What do you miss most about the UK?

I miss the humour and I miss the chocolate. The chocolate in America is horrible so when I’m there I’m craving Cadbury’s Chocolate Buttons.

 

Crystal Reed  who plays Alison Argent:How does Teen Wolf differ from the much-loved 80s film? 

It’s less funny and more interesting. The film was more camp, I guess, whereas our show tackles more of the big issues about growing up.

What’s the best thing about working with your castmates? Is it being surrounded by so many gorgeous young men perhaps?

[Laughs] I used to be a little distracted by that but now I’m used to it. Now I’m like ‘Huh, another guy with his shirt off, no big deal’. It’s funny, isn’t it, how it’s the guys on TV who show more flesh than the girls these days? Although in England nudity is no big deal, right? I mean, you have those Page Three girls.

What do you fear the most in life?

Uncertainty and not having control in certain situations, but that fear also spurs me on. As an actor there’s a part of you that has to rise to the challenge.

Have you ever embarrassed yourself in front of a celebrity or a hero? 

I was at a party where everyone was drinking except me, although it probably looked like I was drunk because I fell down the stairs. I was mortified because the only person who saw me fall on my ass was Taylor Lautner.

Who’s your celebrity crush and why? Have you met him?

Oh jeez, when I was young I had a crush on Jonathan Taylor Thomas from Home Improvement. He also did the voice in The Lion King so Simba was very cute to me. I had posters of him and the Backstreet Boys all over my bedroom walls but no, I haven’t met them.

What’s been the strangest Tweet you’ve ever received?

I’m not very good at Twitter and I don’t go on it very often, but when I do read through things people have Tweeted I’m shocked at how direct they are. I mean, proposals of marriage and things like that. I’m not gonna say yes to someone I’ve never met, am I? 

You and Daniel Sharman, who plays Isaac on the show, are a couple in real life. Is it easier to date an actor than someone who doesn’t fully understand the profession?

I use to say I’d never date an actor because of the hectic schedules that come with this job but they’re really the only people who understand exactly what you’re going through. They can watch you kiss someone else on screen and not cringe because they understand it’s just acting. 

Are you impressed with Daniel’s football skills?

He’s really good, although he’s really modest and he tells me he doesn’t play so well when I’m watching.

And do you always get his English sense of humour?

Most of the time, yeah. He takes the piss out of me a lot, which sometimes gets on my nerves a little, but I have to remember that it’s just his sense of humour.

Comment décririez-vous Teen Wolf à un nouveau public  qui n'aurait pas vu la série?

Tyler Hoechlin: Eh bien, si on le compare au film, elle est pleine humour ,intelligente , il a des éléments d'horreur et elle ressemble vraiment à ce moment de votre vie où vous passez de l'adolescence à l'âge adulte et tous les changements qui se produisent.Je pense que la série a un visage propre maintenant et la seule comparaison qui peut être faite avec le film, c'est que nous avons le même titre.

Daniel sharman: C'est une série vraiment passionnante qui reprend des thèmes vieux comme le monde et sombres du film des années 1980. C'est un film amusant, bien sûr, mais nous allons plus profondément dans les problèmes de l'adolescence et nous entrons dans la troisième saisons on ne peut plus se comparer au film.

Crystal reed: C'est moins drôle et plus intéressant. Le film était plus ado, je suppose, alors que notre série aborde plusieurs grandes questions au sujet de l'adolescence.

Quelle est la meilleure chose à propos de travailler en groupe?

Tyler hoechlin: Comment ne pas aimer? Quand je reçois la feuille d'appel la première chose que je regarde, c'est qui va être sur le plateau le lendemain,avec qui je vais traîner. C'est comme être avec vos meilleurs amis tous les jours et même si nous ne faisons pas de scènes ensemble nous allons traîner.

Crystal reed:J'ai l'habitude d'être un peu distraite par cela, mais maintenant je suis habitué. Maintenant, je me dis "Huh, un autre gars sans sa chemise, pas grand-chose". C'est drôle, n'est-ce pas, les gars à la télé montrent plus de chair que les filles de nos jours? En Angleterre la nudité n'est pas grand chose, non? Je veux dire, vous avez ces "pages three girls".

Compte tenu du fait que vous devez être en forme pour la série vous autorisez vous quelques écart niveau nourriture?

Tyler hoechlin: [Rires] Non, mais je dois prendre un café pour me faire tenir et puis je vais furtivement à la machine à pop-corn. C'est une pression pour être en forme. J'ai pris du poids pour la saison deux parce que je voulais que Derek paraisse fort, mais ils ne m'ont donné qu'une scène torse nu. Mais vous devez être prêt car à tout moment ils peuvent vous dire "tu dois être à moitié nu dans cette scène". Je laisse les chosesaller quand on est en hiatus, puis lorsque le tournage démarre à nouveau, je suis de retour avec le régime. C'est drôle parce qu'il a des montages de nous tous. C'est la chose la plus difficile à faire - Je m'ennuie de ne plus manger de pain.

A quelle carrière aspirez-vous et pourquoi?

Tyler hoechlin:  Il y a tellement de gens que j'admire: Robert Downey Jr, Johnny Depp, George Clooney, Tom Hanks. Ce sont les quatre grands mais Christian Bale est un acteur incroyable, Matt Damon est génial ... Les gars que j'admire sont ceux qui peuvent aller d'un genre à l'autre et qui sont vraiment bons à disparaître dans un personnage. Les acteurs qui n'ont pas peur de prendre des risques sont ceux que je respecte vraiment.

Que craignez-vous le plus dans la vie?

Tyler hoechlin: Le Regret. J'aime penser que, tout ce que je fais,je le fais en étant totalement engagé à prendre des risques et c'est une bonne chose. Je ne veux pas regarder en arrière et me dire "J'aurais dû essayer ça. " La seule façon de dépasser vos limites est de vous pousser plus loin. Oh, et j'ai peur des grands requins blancs. J'aime surfer et les requins sont ma plus grande crainte bien que, je touche du bois, je n'en ai jamais rencontré un jusqu'ici.

Daniel Sharman: La médiocrité - l'idée d'être juste bien dans quelque chose.A l'école de théâtre on nous a appris à y aller, même si cela signifie échouer. La tessellation me fait peur aussi. Savez-vous ce que c'est? C'est plein de petits objets rangés, comme les nervures sur la langue d'un chat. ça me fait peur.

Crystal reed:L'Incertitude et le manque de contrôle dans certaines situations, mais  la peur me pousse également. En tant qu'actrice, il ya une partie de vous qui doit relever le défi.

N'Avez-vous jamais été embarrassé devant une célébrité ou un héros?

Tyler Hoechlin: J'ai rencontré Matthew Perry quand j'étais gamin. Je suis un grand fan de Friends et je me trouvais dans une chambre, je me suis présenté à lui, j'ai dit 'Salut', puis je l'ai simplement regarder pendant qu'il était dans une autre conversation. Finalement, je me suis dis: «OK, je devrais y aller maintenant».

Daniel sharman: Une fois, j'ai rencontré Peter O'Toole, qui est un de mes acteurs préférés, et j'étais tellement embarrassé que j'avais l'air d'un crétin fini. Je ne pouvais pas sortir un seul mot.

Crystal reed: J'étais à une fête où tout le monde buvait, sauf moi, bien que sans doute je paraissais ivre parce que je suis tombée dans les escaliers. J'étais mortifiée parce que la seule personne qui m'a vu tomber était Taylor Lautner.

Qui est votre béguin pour unecélébrité et pourquoi? l'Avez-vous rencontrée?

Tyler hoechlin: En grandissant, j'ai eu le béguin pour Keira Knightley. Je l'ai vu dans Pirates des Caraïbes et j'ai pensé qu'elle était si courageuse. Je ne l'ai jamais rencontré, mais peut-être qu'un jour je travaillerais avec elle. j'espère.

Daniel sharman: J'avais bizarre le béguin pour les personnages de dessins animés étant enfant, surtout April dans les Tortues Ninja. Elle était tellement en forme, mais bien sûr, je ne l'ai jamais rencontrée, principalement parce qu'elle n'existe pas dans la vraie vie!

Crystal reed:Oh mon Dieu, quand j'étais jeune, j'ai eu le béguin pour Jonathan Taylor Thomas de Home Improvement. Il a également fait la voix dans Le Roi Lion de Simba c'était donc très mignon pour moi. J'avais des posters de lui et des Backstreet Boys sur les murs de ma chambre mais non, je ne l'ai pas rencontré.

Quel a été le Tweet le plus étrange que vous ayez jamais reçu?

Tyler hoechlin: C'est bizarre quand les gens me demandent de les mordre. En raison de la série je sais d'où ça vient mais c'est un peu bizarre, mais aussi ils pourraient être des milliers de kilomètres donc ce n'est pas très pratique, non?

Daniel sharman: Je ne suis pas très bon sur Twitter, mais quelques-unes des lettres de fans que je reçois sont vraiment explicites. Vous avez des filles de 12 ans qui dise des choses extravagantes. Je n'entrerai pas dans les détails de ce qu'elles disent mais c'est assez inquiétant.

Crystal reed: Je ne suis pas très bonne à Twitter et je n'y vais pas très souvent, mais quand je lis ce que les gens ont tweeté je suis choquée par la façon directe dont ils vous parlent. Je veux dire, des propositions de mariage et des choses comme ça. Je ne vais pas dire oui à quelqu'un que je n'ai jamais rencontré, si?

Quelles sont vos expériences à LA?

Tyler hoechlin: ce n'est certainement pas facile. C'est une ville animée. Les gens entrent et sortent tout le temps, ça entre et sorte tout le temps... C'est intense et il n'y a pas ce sentiment de communauté où vous avez envie de connaître tout le monde.

Vous et Crystal Reed, qui joue Allison, vous êtes un couple dans la vie réelle. Comment vivez-vous l'attention qu'on vous apporte?

Daniel sharman: Il peut y avoir une pression supplémentaire parce que nous avons tous des brouilles, ça doit être difficile de se voir éclabousser à travers les journaux quand on est très connu. Mais c'est génial d'être avec une actrice car elle comprendre le travail et puis on n'a pas à vivre à chaque instant sous l'œil du public. Tu peux éviter les grandes fêtes du showbiz et tous ces trucs.

Crystal reed: Je veux dire que je n'avais jamais été en couple avec un acteur avant en raison des horaires chargés qui viennent avec ce travail, mais ils sont vraiment les seules personnes qui comprennent exactement ce que je vis. Ils peuvent vous voir embrasser quelqu'un d'autre à l'écran et ne pas grincer des dents, car ils comprennent que c'est juste un personnage.

Vous êtes un Britannique oui, comment s'est passé le passage à Hollywood?

Depuis que j'ai commencé à jouer, je voulais aller en Amérique. Ensuite, j'ai fait les Immortels au Canada, j'ai fait le déplacement à Los Angeles et je suis tombé amoureux des films et du processus pour la TV. Je me suis entraîné au théâtre donc il était intéressant pour moi de voir comment ils font les choses différemment. Il n'y a pas meilleure façon d'apprendre que d'être sur une grande série de télévision américaine, et bien sûr la restauration est mieux, même si nous devons être en forme pour Teen Wolf donc je ne suis pas autorisé à rester à proximité de tout ce qui est attrait à la nourriture - mais je peux dire que cela semble mieux.

Les britanniques ont une forte présence à Hollywood en ce moment. Est ce que vous sortez ensemble?

Nous le faisons, oui. Je joue au football, comme le font beaucoup de Britanniques là-bas, alors il y a toujours une équipe pour jouer. Je suis dans la  même équipe que Stephen Moyer de True Blood, qui est aussi un Britannique. C'est drôle comment nous sommes tous ensemble.Il y a plus de Britanniques à Los Angeles qu'il n'y d'Américains. Vous sortez le soir et c'est comme être en bas de votre pub anglais local.

Qu'est-ce qui vous manque le plus?

Je m'ennuie de l'humour et du chocolat. Le chocolat en Amérique est horrible quand je suis là, je me jette sur le chocolat Cadbury.

 

Êtes-vous impressionnée par les compétences de football de Daniel?

Crystal reed: Il est vraiment bon, même s'il est vraiment modeste et il me dit qu'il ne joue pas si bien quand je le regarde.

Comprenez vous toujours son sens de l'humour anglais?

La plupart du temps, oui. Il me fatigue sur beaucoup de choses, ce qui parfois me tape sur les nerfs un peu, mais je dois me rappeler que c'est juste son sens de l'humour.
